Strike rate & economy

Batting strike rate

Formula: (Runs ÷ Balls) × 100

Strike rate

148.89

Bowling economy

Formula: Runs conceded ÷ Overs

Economy

7.00

Batting strike rate formula

Strike rate measures scoring speed:

Strike rate = (Runs ÷ Balls faced) × 100

Example: 67 runs off 45 balls → (67 ÷ 45) × 100 = 148.89.

Use legal deliveries faced only — wides and no-balls are usually not counted against the batter’s balls faced (follow your format’s scoring convention).

Bowling economy rate formula

Economy measures runs conceded per over:

Economy rate = Runs conceded ÷ Overs bowled

Example: 28 runs in 4.0 overs → 28 ÷ 4 = 7.00.

Overs use cricket notation: 3.4 means 3 overs and 4 balls (3 + 4/6). Convert unfinished overs before dividing.

Boundaries and context

Strike rate alone does not show how runs came. Pair it with fours, sixes, and dot-ball percentage when reviewing an innings. Economy should be read with wickets and match phase — death overs inflate economy for even good bowlers.

Automatic tracking in STUMPED

STUMPED updates batting and bowling figures after every ball offline. No need to recalculate strike rate or economy between overs — open the scorecard when the innings ends and share it from the ground.

Frequently asked questions

Does economy include wides and no-balls?

Yes in standard scoring — extras conceded count in the bowler’s runs. Confirm any house rules for tape-ball leagues.

Will STUMPED show career strike rate?

Yes. Score matches in the app and open Your Batting / Your Bowling for format-wise career rates.
