Common gully cricket rules (adapt to your street)

Gully cricket is informal, but good games still agree rules before the toss. Typical house rules cover overs per side, one-bounce catches, LBW (often not given), and whether wides / no-balls cost an extra delivery.

Tape-ball matches often allow tip-and-run style running and treat the boundary as a wall, car, or marked line. Write the agreed list down — arguments mid-over kill the vibe.

• Agree overs, team size, and boundary before toss
• Decide if LBW is in play (many gully games skip it)
• Clarify wide / no-ball: free hit or not?
• One-bounce catch: out or not? Agree once
• Retired batters: can they return? Set the rule

Suggested match formats

• Quick gully: 6–8 overs a side, 6–8 players
• Mohalla cup: 10–12 overs, playing XI of 8–11
• Tape-ball evening: 8 overs, one tip-and-run optional

These are conventions, not Laws of Cricket. Your captains’ agreement always wins.
